Transit Poster Summer 2024 Olympics
Objective
Design a transit poster to promote the upcoming Summer 2024 Olympics
Initial Sketch Concepts
Original concept sketches focuses on what rhythmic gymnastics symbolizes.
First sketch: includes all variations of rhythmic gymnastics; ribbon, hoop, clubs, and ball and held by one hand each. Symbolizes unison in one sport.
What didn’t work: the overall sketch lacked dynamism and composition, does not leave any negative space.
Other notes: Colors that were used in the sketch allows separation for each attribute that is used in the poster. Moreover, it initially ties to the theme of the poster and its subject.
Second sketch: the ribbon encompasses the “world” and the rings that surround the world itself represents the olympics.
What didn’t work: ribbon lacks dynamism and overall dimension without the thickness and thinness of line, the general line weight
Other notes: Colors that were used in the sketch allows separation for each attribute that is used in the poster. Moreover, it initially ties to the theme of the poster and its subject but was later changed to better fit the subject’s representation.
Third Sketch: an alternative to the second sketch. Rhythmic gymnastics includes clubs, and by using closeups of clubs as an abstract form of representing the rhythmic gymnastics as part of the olympics.
what didn’t work well: does not send the message that was intended, has little to no context.=
Other notes: Colors that were used in the sketch allows separation for each attribute that is used in the poster. The initial process was to have taken pictures of a rhythmic gymnast with clubs and have the image it rendered and composited in Photoshop.
Developed Sketches
Due to the ribbon’s dimensions and dynamic in the second option, the chosen sketch was chosen and then was adapted further. In order to portray a more vigorous perspective of rhythmic gymnastics, the use of scale and proportions were incorporated.
By scaling down the size of the gymnast, it allows for the ribbon itself to be the main focus of the poster and it conveys what the sport is about and what is represents.
Into Conception
Both ideas have been conceptualized and using different shapes and forms to create a more dynamic composition. In order to emphasize the ribbon’s dynamic an even greater extent, line thickness was included and by experimenting with different measurements of line thickness, it was determined that thin lines permitted more dimension and depth.
